Description
The International Sandalwood Symposium 2012 is a four-day, stand-alone meeting to be held at the East-West Center’s Hawaii Imin International Conference Center located at the University of Hawaii, Manoa Campus in Honolulu, Hawaii from 21-24 October 2012. It is designed to bring together a diverse international group of participants interested in the scientific research, conservation, ethnobotany, commercialization, and other aspects of sandalwoods- from the world’s leading experts to students, landowners, land managers, business people, and the general public. There will be a variety of ways to participate in the meeting, including field trips, public lectures and workshops, presentations, poster and discussion sessions. The symposium is co-organized by the International Sandalwood Foundation and United Plant Savers, both 501(c)(3) charitable organizations) and sponsored by a number of organizations and businesses listed here.

Abstract Submission (Due 1 July 2012)
Abstracts for both Poster and Oral Presentations are now being accepted! To submit an abstract, please email your NAME, ORGANIZATION, EMAIL ADDRESS, MAILING ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER, and list of CO-AUTHORS and their full information along with your TITLE and 300-500 WORD ABSTRACT to: danica@sandalwoodfoundation.org. Please indicate whether you prefer a POSTER or ORAL PRESENTATION. All abstracts will be accepted. Presenters must submit abstract and register for the conference no later than 1 JULY 2012. The program Steering Committee will assign time slots ranging from approx. 20-45 minutes. Please note that all presenters will be required to submit a full-length article to be published in the Conference Proceedings- due date and more information to come.

Both One-Day and Full-Conference Registration is available now, with reduced rates for students*. One-Day registration includes all programs, reception, and poster session on Sunday 21 October. Full-Conference includes all Sunday activities and reception, plus the full scientific program, lunch, and field-trip through Wednesday 24 October. TO REGISTER CLICK HERE.

Local Accommodations and Transportation
Conference attendees are responsible for arranging their own housing at the facility of their choice. All conference sessions will be held in the Hawai`i Imin International Conference Center at Jefferson Hall at the East-West Center which is located on the campus of the University of Hawai`i, Manoa at 1777 East-West Road, Honolulu, HI 96822. Housing is available at the East-West Center directly adjacent to the conference facilities, or approximately 3 miles away in the Waikiki Beach area of Honolulu. Standard room rates for hotels in the Waikiki area range from approximately $100-200+/night.
East–West Center – Reservations at the Center’s residence halls will be accepted directly by the Housing Office from now until the conference. Room rates and descriptions of the facilities are at the bottom of the attached Visitor Request Form.pdf or on the Center’s Conference Housing webpage; rates range from $27/night for a single room to $74/night for a 1-bedroom double occupancy room with a kitchen. Please submit the Visitor Request Form directly to the Housing Office via Email or Fax (1-808-944-7790), or call 1-808-944-7805; please be advised that for security reasons, the Housing Office recommends calling in credit card information when emailing in reservation. A group affiliation for the "International Sandalwood Symposium" has already been established and entered in the status field of the visitor request form. Therefore, no additional verification of affiliation will be required when you submit your reservation request. Please note that conference attendees may use the East-West Center housing from October 17-28. All of the Center’s residence halls are located within easy walking distance of the Hawai`i Imin International Conference Center at Jefferson Hall. Some hotel-type services may not be available in the residence halls. Additional information about the Center’s policies and facilities is provided in the FAQ’s.
Local Transportation – City Bus Route #4 and 6 serve the University of Hawai`i campus. Note that bus service is limited on weekends, at night, and on holidays. Timetables and fare information can be found at TheBus.org. Please be aware that travel to and from the airport is most convenient by taxi (approx. $30-$40) as there is no direct bus service. Parking on Campus – A limited number of spaces will be available in the East-West Center lot for $5 per day for those staying at the East-West Center’s Lincoln Hall. Arrangements must be made in advance directly with the Housing Office. Parking on the campus of the University of Hawai`i, Manoa is also available to non-resident visitors in the various garages and lots on a space available basis. Rates and additional information can be found on the University of Hawaii’s Parking webpage.
